Formative: Giving students an opportunity to express their thoughts about the demonstrations and audio recordings will help me discern the effectiveness of my teaching approaches. Offering students ways to critique and evaluate the system will provide me with valuable feedback that I can use to improve or even change my methodology.
Summative: After the podcasting system has been in place in my teaching practices for one year, I will revisit the system design and re-evaluate my own progress with the usage of the system in addition to student learning outcomes. I will reflect on past years’ tests scores and project assessments and compare them to the present student body. With an increase in student achievement I can continue to practice using the podcasting system and increase my knowledge of what the system has to offer.

Will you do me a favor? When you compile your data will you share it with me? I would love to see the difference that the system makes with your students.

I have already begun collecting data with students who bring in their own iPods. I have begun using the podcasting system with several students and it has been a fantastic addition to my class. Allowing students to use their own technology gives them an oppotunity to make a differnce in their learning choices. For instance, many of my behaviorally challenging students enjoy using their iPod to listen to the demonstration directions, because they know that once they are done and they fully understand what is expected of them, they may continue to use the iPod for enjoyment purposes. This is an incredible motivator for some of these kids. They also have the availability to review the demo at any time, to keep them on track.
For my students who are more academically challenged, this system aliviates any stress with misunderstanding the lesson demonstration, because they can go back and review the instructions and nobody needs to know that they didn't "get it" the first time. It keeps things more private. And at a middle school level, looking good in front of your peers is so important at this age.
I will continue to compile more evidence that using the podcasting system is highly beneficial and effective in my classroom.
